I visited this restaurant several times in the past, and it used to be really good! Fresh fish perfectly cooked every time! However, it seems their management changed.
Myself and my partner went for a Friday night dinner couple of years ago and were looking forward to some good quality fish.
We ordered a bottle of Prosecco, while it arrived quite quickly it wasn’t chilled enough. It was left at the table in a white wine metal chiller not in a bucket with ice.
Complimentary bread and butter was provided, but we noted that the waiter handled the bread without washing hands or wearing gloves after collecting money and dirty plates from nearby tables. There were two slices of white and two slices of brown with a knob of butter.
Our starter arrived after 20 min. We ordered the following:
“Oysters on ice”- fresh, quite small and some of them had its flesh ripped to pieces, obviously they were not open by a skilled person.
“Loch Fyne smoked salmon ashet consiting of: Bradan Rost (kiln-roasted salmon fillet), Kinglas fillet (sashimi style) and oak smoked salmon” , in simple English: smoked salmon slice, you get better from a supermarket, 2 pieces of sashimi style and so called roasted piece which was very dry and tasteless, and it certainly did not look like a salmon.
“Loch Fyne mussels, served with crusty bread – Provençale style with tomato and oregano”: i always order Marinières style mussels so i thought i should try something different, i was expecting a rich Provencale sauce i could dip my bread in. I wanted to cry when they put the dish infront of me. Tiny mussels cooked in water with some chopped tomato, half raw, thrown on the top of the mussels and sprinkled with some pieces of oregano. It states “served with crusty bread”, yes, 3 tiny slices of a stale baguette. Mussels were fresh, but so small. An average size of the mussels’ flesh was 2cm. They didn’t serve finger bowl with water as you normally get with mussels and similar seafood.
It took a while for our waiter to clear the table. The mains arrived within 10 minutes.
My partner ordered “Fish and chips: line-caught haddock, with chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce” – Fresh fish but you can get the same in your local fish and chips shop. Nothing special. Mushy peas were absolutely horrible, this was definately something from a mass production, it was inedible. I had better at a local take-away. So called tartare sauce was just plain mayo with strong taste of onion. I found “newspapers decoration” quite tacky in this kind of restaurant.
I had “Seafood selection – grilled salmon, sea bass and king prawn with seared scallops served with lemon parsley butter, spinach and new potatoes” . Decent amount of fish, salmon and seabass slightly overcooked, two scallops undercooked with roe still attached. One small king prawn. Spinach and potato OK, but they served the main fish dish without lemon slices. I also noticed plates were not properly clean, greasy finger marks were quite visible.
After we finished our mains the waiter failed to remove dirty plates. It was sitting at the table until they came to give us dessert menu.
I wanted to try their chocolate and orange tart, but was told they run out. So we ordered selection of sorbets and strawberry ice cream. Good portions, strawberry ice cream quite rich with strawberry pieces. @ £4.50
Considering this is a fish and seafood restaurant, i was very disappointed they failed to prepare and cook the fish properly.
Service was poor, our waiter was in his own world and not attentive at all.
Total bill for two: £81, including bottle of warm Prosecco, bottle of sparkling water, two orange juices.
Will not visit again.
